Civil Rights Celebration

  • Credo 360 Pine Street San Francisco, CA, 94104 United States (map)

While the civil rights of seniors and people with disabilities are under attack in Washington DC, please join The FDR Dems to recognize the the 27th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the 52nd Anniversaries of Medicare and Medicaid! The ADA, Medicare and Medicaid have been the most significant pieces of legislation for our communities.

Please join us for good company, hors d'oeuvres, and hosted wine and beer as we toast all we have achieved and rally for the future! Get your tickets HERE!

At the event, we will present the 4th annual August J.P. Longo Award for Leadership. Honoring the founder of the FDR Dems, the August J.P. Longo award recognizes an outstanding leader or organization that has demonstrated a commitment to advancing the causes of seniors and people with disabilities.

Please join us this year, as we honor The Dignity Fund Coalition and Assemblymember Tony Thurmond!

The Dignity Fund Coalition is a broad coalition of San Francisco nonprofit and community organizations and advocates who have come together to address the growing need for services and support for seniors, adults with disabilities, veterans and those living with chronic illnesses. The Coalition came together to pass the Dignity Fund in November 2016. The Dignity Fund secures funding to ensure San Francisco’s seniors and adults with disabilities are able to live with dignity, independence and good health in their homes and communities by making our city a more aging and disability friendly place.

Assemblymember Tony Thurmond represents Assembly District 15. In his 10 years of elected service, Assemblymember Thurmond has been a strong advocate for people with disabilities and seniors, particularly in his role as Chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee Health and Human Services where he secured resources for county welfare offices for MediCal eligibility administration, caregiver resource centers, HIV prevention outreach and mental health advocacy. A social worker by trade, Assemblymember Thurmond spent his early career in social services including as a program manager at the Golden Gate Regional Center, leading service provision for people with developmental disabilities.
